He used to have various prosthetic solutions but Harry said they weighed him down <em>\u201cI\u2019ve had one arm with a strap around the shoulder, but when riding my bike I had to really lean forward which was uncomfortable on my shoulder. And another prosthetic arm, all it did was barely open and close which I don\u2019t use.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harry continued <em>\u201cWith the Hero Arm, I can do so many grips, and it has freeze mode, which means when I grip things it locks so I don\u2019t drop them. I also love the design.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13-x-3-in.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13-x-3-in.jpg 900w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13-x-3-in-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13-x-3-in-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13-x-3-in-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/3-x-3-in.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/3-x-3-in.jpg 900w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/3-x-3-in-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/3-x-3-in-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/3-x-3-in-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To keep the Hero Arm, Harry had to go through a month-long trial to be able to prove he can use the technology and only had confirmation he can keep it this week. <em> \u201cWhen he got it yesterday, he was just beaming, he couldn\u2019t wait to show everybody.\u201d <\/em>commented his grandmother Susan Higham. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/openbionics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/open-bionics-shoot-16.jpg 1975w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHe\u2019ll be able to now really get into the festive spirit, he can pull a Christmas cracker with both hands now, which he\u2019s never been able to do before.\u201d <\/em>said Susan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harry\u2019s Hero Arm was custom-made using advanced 3D printed technology, and reads muscle movements in his forearm to create intuitive bionic finger movements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently the NHS updated its regulations to allow for multi-grip technology to be offered nationwide, meaning amputees will no longer have to be prescribed old heavy hooks, but have access to advanced bionic technology for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open Bionics have a waiting list of people who aren\u2019t able to afford the costs to cover for a bionic arm privately <em>\u201cOur community has been lobbying for the NHS to update it\u2019s policy for nearly a decade, so to see Harry being the first civilian to be fitted with a Hero Arm under the NHS is monumental. The new policy enables Hero Arm users of 12 months to be eligible for a NHS trial of this tech. If they pass the trial, they get to keep the arm.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt is a shame the policy insists that children and young people who do not have previous experience with this tech must wear a device they do not like for 12 months to be eligible for a trial to wear the tech they do want.
