{"id":19537,"date":"2025-10-27T11:28:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T11:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/?p=19537"},"modified":"2025-10-27T11:28:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T11:28:07","slug":"now-fitting-bionic-arms-in-atlanta-meet-ian-reyes-certified-prosthetist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/now-fitting-bionic-arms-in-atlanta-meet-ian-reyes-certified-prosthetist\/","title":{"rendered":"Now Fitting Bionic Arms in Atlanta: Meet Ian Reyes, Certified Prosthetist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>At the Open <a href=\"https:\/\/openbionics.com\/visit-our-prosthetic-clinic-in-atlanta-georgia\/\">Bionics clinic in Atlanta<\/a>, GA, patients will meet Ian Reyes, a clinician who combines technical skill with genuine care.<\/em><br><br>Ian studied biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech, where a robotics lab first introduced him to prosthetics. <em>\u201cA robotics lab is where I first saw how prosthetics could change someone\u2019s day,\u201d<\/em> he said. <em>\u201cMy childhood dream was always to be a superhero, and helping others in this unique way makes me feel like I\u2019ve become one.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That passion led him to earn a Master\u2019s in Prosthetics and Orthotics in Tampa, complete a VA residency in Los Angeles focused on upper-limb care, and work as an orthotist at Children\u2019s Healthcare of Atlanta. He has also guest lectured at Kennesaw State University\u2019s MSPO program, helping future clinicians learn the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI want to help people do more than they thought possible,\u201d<\/em> Ian said. <em>\u201cBionics is where problem solving meets the real world.\u201d<\/em> His engineering background helps him think creatively when adapting devices and training strategies for each patient. <em>\u201cIt\u2019s taught me to prioritize between a patient\u2019s needs and wants and use the tools I have to reach their goals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the clinic, Ian often sees both younger congenital and older traumatic amputees. <em>\u201cA typical first visit usually starts with an introduction and a hands-on look at our products. From there, we\u2019ll take a cast and plan the next steps, usually a test socket fitting and delivery.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says what makes Open Bionics unique in Atlanta is its end-to-end approach.<em> \u201cWe\u2019re both the clinician and the manufacturer, so there\u2019s no middleman. It\u2019s a hub for people from all around the world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same diversity extends to the amputee community he serves. <em>\u201cThey come from all walks of life. I\u2019ve seen toddlers using passive prostheses to help them crawl, veterans from the VA using their lower-limb prostheses, and farmers from the countryside who rely on their devices every day to work.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ian\u2019s goals for the year focus on building community and awareness. <em>\u201cI want to establish strong relationships with other providers and increase visibility for the clinic here in Atlanta. I\u2019d like to be another trusted option for patients in the area.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of Ian\u2019s patients, a drummer and volunteer music mentor, shares Ian\u2019s drive to empower others. He travels to help differently abled musicians follow their passion.
